NLS allows the system administrator to easily tailor user access to match the security needs of your organization. Before setting up security in NLS, an overall security plan should be created as a guide to setting up users and groups.
To access the Security settings, click Security on the shortcut bar and select User
, Group
, or Default Privileges
.
In NLS, security privileges are assigned in three areas:
- Default privileges – the basic access rights for all NLS users.
- User privileges – assigned at the individual user level and apply to a specific user account.
- Group privileges – added at the group level and apply to all users who are a member of the group.
Users may be members of more than one group, and their access is defined by the sum of the default privileges, the user’s individual privileges, and the privileges of all groups that they are a member of. A user’s total access may be seen by selecting a user account in the tree bar then clicking View Total User Privileges .
